FINDING HAPPINESS

People ask me all the time how I can be so happy or make fun of situations like cancer when I have been through so much tragedy. Tragedy is a perception. Happiness is a decision, not an event. If you find you are unhappy about certain circumstances in your life you don't need to change the circumstances you need to change your perception of the circumstances. When you are in difficult times you often think you are the only one that is. You feel detached from the world. Yet all the problems we face are the same problems that have always existed. We need to change our focus and view these problems differently. We need to transform the mind.

Chose to be happy! Stop the perpetual negative comments about these problems. If the horse is dead stop beating it! Snide comments only reinforce your unhappy state. Stop constantly complaining about the kids, the husband or wife, your job, the government, were you live etc, etc. Positive communication often helps one understand what has gone wrong and can put one on a more productive path. When things go wrong in life, we have to face them and correct them, but don't focus on the negative. Look for the things to be grateful for.

I'm not saying that you should not fight for what's right or stand up for yourself when needed. Being overly passive can be a counter productive. But, if you are an unhappy person in your heart, you have the power to change that. If you are still breathing, you have a lot to be grateful for.

Peace B

LOVE THAT LINE YOU WROTE. AFTER MY ACCIDENT [ A BAD FALL] I'M JUST NOW FEELING BETTER. WHEN ANYONE SAY HOW YOU DOING I JUST SAY FINE. I GET TIRED TELLING EVERYONE THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER.AS LONG AS I'M SITTING IN MY CHAIR I FEEL OK. IT'S JUST WHEN I GET UP AND TRY TO DO SOMETHING. I HAVEN'T BEEN UP TO COMPANY OR GOING ANYWHERE. GRAMPS WENT OVER TO OUR DAUGHTERS HOUSE FOR CHRISTMAS AND I JUST STAYED HOME WITH THE DOG FOR THE DAY. I ACTUALLY LOVE THE PEACE AND QUIET. AGAIN THE FAMILY DON'T WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHY I CAN'T MAKE THE TRIP TO VISIT. THEIR PROBLEM NOT MINE.WHAT I NEED IS A CAR WITH A FOOT LIFE. IT WOULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERANT IN A LONG CAR RIDE.I WONDER WHY CAR DEALERS HAVE THOUGHT OF PUTTING THEM ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE OF THE CAR FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME AND OTHERS. I HAVE SEEN THEM IN THE BIG BIG BIG $$$$CARS.

I HOPE YOUR FEELING BETTER. ALSO HOPE THE HOSPITAL DOES SOMETHING ABOUT MAKING PEOPLE WAIT SO LONG IN THE WAITING ROOM. PEOPLE JUST DON'T WANT TO DO THEIR JOBS AS THEY SHOULD BE DONE WITH A LITTLE KINDNESS.I SEE YOU ARE HAVING AN EYE OPERATION . GOOD LUCK. I HOPE ALL GOES WELL.

GRAMPS HAS SLOWED DOWN SO MUCH THIS YEAR AND IT WORRIES ME.TURNED 82.

TAKE CARE.

Brian,
You are so right about perceptions being the key to feeling happy! People never complain about all the gifts life brings their way, only the bad things that happen. I taught my kids never to ask, "Why me?". They should say, "Why not me?". One person is no more special than the next, no more valuable. Pain and sorrow are part of life and hold as much joy and wonder as the happier gifts. You teach about the joy and wonder in every situation because you see the "Big picture". You know that you have to FIND your happiness in every experience. That's what I love about you and "seeing: life from your side. :)

AFTER A YEAR OF TREATMENT FOR THE CANCER, MY 13 YEAR OLD FRIEND HAD A GOOD REPORT THIS PAST WEEK. MY DAUGHTER FLEW UP TO MARYLAND WITH HER AND HER MOM FOR HER REVIEW WITH THE CANCER RESERCH DOCTORS. SO MUCH SADNESS THIS PAST YEAR AND THE FEAR THAT GOES ALONG WITH IT HAS LIGHTEN A LITTLE. SHE MAY HAVE TO DO TREATMENTS ALL HER LIFE BUT FOR NOW WE ALL SAY AMEN. SHE ONLY WEIGHS 95# AND THE DOCTORS WANT HER TO GAIN WEIGHT. SHE'S ONE OF THESE PICKY EATER. I FOR ONE SHE'D EAT WHAT I PUT IN FRONT OF HER OR ELSE JUST TO GET THE #S ON HER BONES.
I HOPE YOUR DOING OK. I REALLY HAVEN'T HAD A WHOLE LOT TO SAY. BEHIND ALOT OF MY NONSENSE I HAVEN'T FELT LIKE MYSELF FOR A WHILE. I GO TO THE DOCTORS NEXT WEEK.

I SEE WE LOST DARIA FROM YOUR BLOG. SO SAD. SHE ALWAY SOUND LIKE A REAL NICE PERSON.I'M PRAYING FOR 5 PEOPLE [FRIENDS] RIGHT NOW WITH CANCER. MY FRIEND RON HAD HIS SURGERY THIS WEEK. HE'LL BE IN A SPECIAL ICU AT DUKE FOR SERVERAL WEEKS WITH SPECIAL CARE. HE'S MY AGE AND I'M REALLY WORRIED ABOUT HIS RECOVERY. IT WAS HIS LUNGS, HEART, AND DIAPHRAGM. THEY PUT A MESH PACKING IN TO HOLD HIS HEART IN PLACE. HE'LL BE IN ALOT OF PAIN FOR AWHILE. THEY MADE HIM SIT IN A CHAIR THE NEXT DAY. I THINK THAT'S CRUEL.THEN A DOCTOR FRIEND FROM ONE OF MY BLOGS. THYROID CANCER.THEN MEGAN, ONE MORE ROUND OF CHEMO FOR HER BOWEL CANCER. SID[THE 13 YEAR OLD]. TREATMENT FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. SHE'S STILL DOING GOOD. AND ON AND ON. I WATCHED MY OLDEST BROTHER SUFFER WITH BOWEL CANCER ETC. SO I FEEL THEIR PAIN LIKE IT WAS MY OWN. SO IF I CAN OFFER UP PRAYERS FOR THEM I FEEL LIKE I'M DOING SOMETHING SITTING HERE IN MY CHAIR.
I DO HOPE YOUR DOING OK.LIFE GOES ON.FOR MYSELF SINCE THAT BAD FALL I JUST HAVEN'T FELT LIKE MYSELF. GOOD DAYS THEN SOME OFF DAYS.I HEALED BUT NEED TWO NEW FEET AND LEGS.I NEED A BUTT KICK TO GET ME OUT OF THIS MOOD I'VE BEEN IN FOR SO LONG.
HUGS
